Adrian Fong publishes paper on app intermediaries and data privacy

Former Google Policy Fellow Adrian Fong has published a paper titled “The Role of App Intermediaries in Protecting Data Privacy,” based on research that he had conducted, in part, at the Citizen Lab in summer 2016. The paper was published in the International Journal of Law and Technology.

Ron Deibert at the Berkeley Centre for Long-Term Cybersecurity

Citizen Lab Director Ron Deibert gave a talk at the Berkeley Centre for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC) as part of a seminar series, in which he spoke about “Cyber Espionage and Civil Society: A Silent Epidemic.” In his presentation, Deibert focused on Citizen Lab’s work on targeted digital threats.

We (can’t) Chat: “709 Crackdown” Discussions Blocked on Weibo and WeChat

This report analyzes the information control practices related to a national crackdown on Chinese rights lawyers and activists on two leading Chinese social media networks. We document the Search filtering on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like service, as well as keyword and image censorship on WeChat, the most popular chat app in China.

Ron Deibert interviewed by CTV News on Black Code documentary

Citizen Lab Director Ron Deibert was interviewed by CTV News about the newly released Black Code documentary, which has been screening at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, and is in theatres April 14th. The ‘Black Code’ documentary film is based on Ron Deibert’s book of the same name, and was directed by Nicholas de Pencier, who also participated in the CTV interview.
