Citizen Lab Research Fellow Jason Q. Ng was quoted in a recent story about Chinese microblogging platform Weibo and its US listing document, which is littered with 56 pages of warnings on the risks of operating in a country which seeks to control information:

“Western (Internet) companies, part of their image and reputation, lies on the fact that they are bastions of freedom of expression,” said Ng, who is also the author of “Blocked on Weibo.

“That Weibo disclosed the fact that they censor… speaks to the reality of the facts on the ground — disclosing to their potential investors that this stuff is a risk.”
